The need is not the call

I was talking with my mom last night, and as always she was a fountain of wisdom! I was explaining to her how I have been feeling very overwhelmed at both work and at home, and very much aware of my need for God's wisdom to know what should be taking priority. She encouraged me with the quote from "Tyrrany of the Urgent" that says in effect that "the need is not the call. The call comes from God." So while I would desire to meet all the needs I am aware of both at work and home, it is not God's will that I do so. I must seek Him for His priorities in my life and focus my energies accordingly. As well, fresh perspective and strength comes as I seek His face. Thank you, Lord, for this helpful reminder. Forgive me for my self-sufficiency. May I look to You with fresh dependence for each task - and seek You regarding which tasks You desire me to prioritize. I want to be busy about what You have called me to. I do not want to run around in a frenzy of activity, laboring fruitlessly in my own effort. Thank you for the grace that You give, my Savior. May I labor for You alone and in the strength that You provide!

Hmmm...the "frenzy of activity" pretty much describes my life at the moment & I'm so convicted about that - even more so after reading your post. How can I sit at His feet long enough to hear His voice if I'm filling up every waking moment w/ activities? Your mom is so wise and I like how she used the whole "the need is not the call." I need to mull that over for a while. Thank you SO much for posting this.
