Doubt
I just listened to a sermon by CJ Mahaney on doubt. I would highly recommend it! Wow! I'm still processing!

One of the points he makes is that we are most vulnerable to doubt when we encounter severe or prolonged trial or suffering. We are tempted in those moments to ask, groan, complain and ask why. Or how long?
Spurgeon once said "when we can't trace His hand, trust his heart." CJ went on to say that it's to trust when we can trace. My trust is informed by my ability to trace. If I can trace "Oh yeah, I see what you're up to there," then I can trust. As long as I percieve clearly God's purpose in the midst of trial and suffering, I have no problem trusting. But alas this is not often where my Savior leads me!!!
CJ went on to say that there are seasons when the purpose is a mystery. I must get comfortable with mystery. There is more than sufficient certainty in the scripture to sustain me during mystery. When it doesn't make sense, I can still trust His heart. And know taht He's sovereign, good, wise beyond my understanding. And he doesn't explain everything to me and is not obligated to. He is more interested in my worship and trust. And though I can't percieve what He's doing, He's at work doing good. Working all things for the good.
CJ then quoted Piper who says that God is "At work in my trials, doing a thousand things only He can see." What sweet confirmation to hear this quote again because God has been ministering to me lately with a song called "A Thousand Things" by Christa Wells, based on this quote. We only have a glimpse, and often not even that, of what God is doing! But oh He's doing a lot!
How grateful I am that only mercy awaits me as I doubt. May I not be preoccupied with this temptation to doubt, but may I be preoccupied with the Gospel and this mercy that awaits me. The only reason I can persevere is the mighty grace of God. HE is able to keep me from stumbling (Jude 1:24).
Thank You, Father, for such grace and mercy that awaits me at every turn. May I trust You more!! And in these seasons where I have no idea what You are doing, may my trust only grow!!! Isaiah 50:10 says "Let him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the Lord and rely on His God." This is where I want to dwell. Relying on my God, my faithful God, fully confident in Him who has saved me from wrath.
