While I'm Waiting
Just got home from such a sweet night with dear friends! It was our annual Pastors College Sweetheart Banquet, and what a sweet, sweet time it was!! I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of planning and preparation. I was probably more excited than the students! But as I was preparing to get all dressed up and head over, I had to fight a bit for contentment and joy, longing for the day when I will have a sweetheart to call my own. A love to celebrate. God in His kindness reminded me of a song - "I'm waiting, waiting on the Lord, and I am hopeful, waiting on the Lord, though it is painful, patiently I will wait. I will move ahead bold and confident, taking every step in obedience. While I'm waiting, I will serve you while I'm waiting. I will worship while I'm waiting."
And it struck me - EXACTLY! That's what I was to keep doing. Serving. Loving others. Giving my life away. I'll keep running the race, even as I wait.
So kind of the Lord to remind me of this before I even stepped foot into the party...and you know what? It was such a precious night...and the Lord helped me to not focus on myself. I was able to truly enter into the joy of the married couples who were celebrating the dear love God had given them. And my vision for Biblical marriage was just strengthened. My anticipation for the day I meet my own dear husband only grew, as I listened to Julie Kauflin recite poetry from Anne Bradstreet. I anticipate growing old with my husband one day, as I watched a dear older couple sing "They Can't Take That Away from Me." It was a wonderful night!!
So while my longing for my own dear husband continues to grow, I am fiercely committed to not waste these waiting years. By God's grace, when my man comes along, he will find me serving while I wait. Full of joy. Full of trust in my God. At rest.
