Pleasant places

So I had one of those mornings. You know the kind I'm talking about. It all started with waking up late. And then a quick look at my weather app. Which really didn't help things. -14 windchill. Um, say what?? You must be joking. But oh no, it was all too real. So I put on my twelve layers and could hardly move, as I made my way towards the front door. Not finding my ice scraper ( I forget I need these things!), I grabbed the head off my broom and grabbed a pancake turner, heading down to attack my ice-encased car. Let me stop for a moment and insert a key element in this little tale. This morning I had also read an article about how hard it is for Southern California residents to leave the sunshine state. That combined with my glaring lack of time in God's Word truly swirled together in my heart, adding fodder to the perfect storm of discontent. So back to my story. I trudged downstairs and the biting, frigid wind pierced me through my very core. The process of de-icing my car resulted in pain. Dull, pulsing pain. I was THAT cold. That's when it began with vigor. The grumbling that bubbled up in my heart. "Why do I live in this ridiculous place?" "Who would ever leave beautuful and sunny San Diego?" "This is just too much for me to handle." and I'm ashamed to admit, the tears were forming in my eyes. My mom called me in the midst of my personal pity party, and I gave her a piece of my outburst. She did what my dear mom so faithfully does. She prayed for me. I was reminded of the Lord. Which is what I needed in this sad little mental drama. Psalm 16 immediately came to mind. The Lord has assigned me my portion and my cup. The boundary lines have fallen in PLEASANT places. God has me in frigid Kentucky. And I will fight to find joy in where He has me. It is amazing how the simple act of connecting God's Word to even the minor bumps of life can have such a tremendous impact! How I need the Lord! So tomorrow morning when I make my trek to the car in frigid weather, I will be repeating (probably out loud to myself!) - "The boundary lines have fallen in pleasant places. Pleasant places. Pleasant places." Albeit snowy ones!
