Goodness pursues me
Last night I sat down to write in my journal. My oft-abandoned journal. But as I thumbed through the well-worn pages, I simply couldn't put it down. I relished each entry- some detailing hard seasons of the soul, others rejoicing in answered prayer. I found myself at times discouraged as I realized that I still struggle with many of the same sins - not trusting God fully, fighting discontent, struggling to see the good God has for me. And yet, I was encouraged at the same time as I reflected on God's incredible patience and long suffering. You see, He doesn't throw in the towel and call it quits when I struggle again and again. He doesn't even grow weary with me. He patiently and lovingly tends my soul, year after year. He convicts me of sin, even when it's the same sin that I repeatedly commit. He graciously and lovingly pinpoints areas where I need to repent. And He does it again and again and again.
As I poured over these journal entries spanning many years, I was struck with the patient kindness of my Savior. He is committed to my sanctification, and He will continue weeding the garden of my heart, rooting out all that lures my heart away from treasuring Him most. Oh Savior, thank You for patiently and skillfully tending my heart. I fail again and again, but Your love never gives up. You are faithful to your own. Your goodness pursues me and will to the end.
