My heart is filled

As we sat around our lavish Thanksgiving feast a few days ago, holding hands to pray, I found myself growing emotional. So many memories flooded my mind as I thought back to last year's thanksgiving. We were in the midst of a severe trial, not able to gather with our family due to my dad's mysterious illness. Life seemed to be on hold. Tears flowed freely. Many sleepless nights, exhausting days and growing questions. And yet though that was only the start of a year filled with many other trials, the Lord met our family in amazingly miraculous and kind ways. From friends who delivered meals, the faithful prayers of countless brothers and sisters, financial provision, physical healing, and the list goes on -- all the way our Savior led us! Personally, this past year was one of the hardest I've faced. I cried more tears than I thought possible. And yet this year also held a sweetness as I experienced the nearess of my God in the dark valleys.

Psalm 79:13 says "but we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will give thanks to you forever..." As we sat around the Thanksgiving table, my full heart soon became a flood of tears as the reality of God's sustaining grace over this past difficult year sank in. And one by one, different family members also grew teary-eyed as we recounted God's goodness to us. It was a precious time of praising the Lord for His care for our family. Eyes filled with tears, we sang "My Heart is Filled with Thankfulness" and the Lord's nearess was palpable. I will never forget this precious time of worship around the table, voices raised in praise to our faithful God.
