Where am I fixing my eyes?
There is just so much to look at right now. Latest news briefings. Stats on how the virus is spreading. Online articles. The well-being of friends and family. Social media. Netflix. I could go on and on and on. It is an unprecedented time in our history. I know I am young, but I certainly have never experienced ANYTHING like this. We are "social-distancing" and "self-quarantining" in an effort to serve our neighbors and do our part in putting a stop to the spread of COVID-19. Things have slowed down significantly as all normal life outside of the home has all but ceased. And yet there is still so much to look at. So much to take in.
I was struck today by this very familiar portion in Hebrews 10. "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God."
Oh I want to look to our King! He is ruling and reigning and is seated at the throne of God. Every fear, every concern, every reality, every single unknown - He knows and He is near and He is reigning. He is not wringing his hands in worry. Oh what sweet comfort this brings to my trouble-ridden heart. Seeing Christ ruling just changes everything. Where am I fixing my eyes?
